You Say Potato I Say Elmo

While we were in Florida we had a birthday party for Maya. Nana and Poppy gave her a tricycle and she did pretty well for her first time on a tricycle. She's only been on it once since we got back but I haven't taken it outside for her to use. For some reason it's a little difficult on carpet.

Maya is now able to say everyone's name except for Morgan. We tried to get her to say Uncle Morgan but that was so long she wouldn't attempt it. So for now she says Mo and we'll see where that takes us. Morgan was able to score some serious points with Maya by giving her a new baby doll. She was thrilled to see her new baby came with shoes that Mommy and Daddy get to take on and off at Maya's demands. The baby was immediately given a diaper change and Maya made several attempts at giving her a bath. I don't think there was a better gift, unless.....

you consider Mr. Potato Head. A classic that everyone knows and yet when Maya ripped through the wrapping paper and laid eyes on him she said, "Elmo!"She continues to insist his name is Elmo.

3 Hour Tour

We spent last week in Florida and one of our mornings were spent sailing off the coast of Captiva. I can assure you it wasn't a 'Jeeves pack the caviar and bring the car around, we're going sailing.' It was more of a 'Careful not to let Maya touch the Corona bottle and could somebody please ask Cap'n Skeevy to stop hitting on Mom?'

We all pitched in with the sailing duties. Jenny and Morgan pulled a bunch of ropes while Jason turned a few cranks and I was told to get out of the way. Mom was in charge of the driving? Steering? And when she wanted a break Maya had no problem filling in.

While Dad....um.....well, I suppose he needed a rest after handing over his credit card. You could sprain something if you're not careful.

We went out for 3 hours and Maya did great. I picked up some bubbles for the trip and she played with them for at least an hour if not more. The breeze was so strong that all she had to do was hold out the wand to get a million bubbles. It was toddler heaven.

We saw several dolphins but no sharks, despite all of Dad's stories of the hammerhead sharks and how they like to breed around here. It would have been something to see one. The hammerhead is just too funny looking. They're scary but in a 'Dude what's wrong with your head,' kind of a way.

*Sigh*

Today my baby turned 2. And what's a better way to celebrate than by having ice cream for dinner?
