Bee Mine

I thought it would be cute if Maya brought in handmade valentine's for her Valentine's Day party at school. I don't know what I was thinking.

Since Maya is only 2, I had to cut out all of the pieces for her. Also, and this may surprise you, Maya has the attention span of a two year old. She glued a couple of pieces and then declared that she was ALL DONE!!! Eventually, I ended up doing the cutting and gluing and Maya just assembled them. Next time I think I'll just stick to things Maya can handle on her own, like suckers.

I Wish You Were Here (And Not Me)

Can you guess what I'm doing today? Cleaning up vomit! Jealous? I thought so. Yeah, so Maya has spent the morning throwing up in her room, the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom, and on the couch. When I asked her if her tummy felt all better she responded by vomiting on the down comforter. I didn't even realize she was that close to it. And you know what makes it even better? She had milk this morning. My place smells.

Look At Me!

I'm really excited I was able to get this video on the blog. It means I am no longer stuck with only posting videos that are 10 seconds or shorter! I don't know what was keeping me from doing this before, I guess it was just the same old technical difficulties we have been having with the laptop.

Maya's big phrase right now is "Look at me!" It's really cute to hear her say it because she's always so excited about whatever it is that she's doing. I'll enjoy it while I can before she starts with the "Hey Mom! Mom! Look over here Mom! Mom! MOOOOMMM LOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!"

If Only She Could Try That At Home

Earlier this week I was late in dropping off Maya for school so I walked her in. When I got there I noticed that her teacher was doing individual assessments. She was checking to see how well they knew their colors, shapes, numbers, quadratic equations, etc. While the little girl she was assessing was explaining her thoughts on the meaning of life, I took Maya into the classroom. Now her teachers have mentioned to me that Maya doesn't talk much. So when I take her into the classroom I tell her to make sure to let her teachers know if she needs a tissue (snot has a fun way of making its way into Maya's hair) and I ask her if she understands. A little girl, who had been watching us and waiting to take Maya off to play, looked at me and said "She can't talk." Great, my kid has become the class mute.

Even The Bow Matched

This video just makes me sad. I bought this outfit for her about two weeks before the video was taken and the pants are already ruined. This was the first time Maya would pedal the trike herself and she got her pants caught up in the wheels. It's just so sad to see cute clothes go to waste.

Can Anyone Tell Me Which Box My Scarf Is In?

I'm sure everyone has heard about it by now but in case you haven't, last week South Carolina was hit hard with snow. It was mass chaos. All the news would talk about was the snow that was HEADING STRAIGHT TOWARDS US! Schools were cancelled hours before the first snowflake had been spotted, grocery stores were mobbed, there were reports that there wasn't a snowplow to be found in the entire state. The next morning we were greeted by this gruesome sight:
Can you even imagine how many seconds I had to devote to removing all that snow from my windshield???
After shoveling our way out of the house, we got Maya dressed so she could enjoy a rare South Carolina encounter with snow. This really couldn't have come at a better time. Maya has been learning about snow in school and has been talking about it non-stop. She would run up to me and tell me it was snowing and we would make pretend snowballs. She never seemed to understand why I would always pretend to throw my snowballs at her or seem to grasp the concept of a snowangel. I'm just glad she was able to see it and touch it.
After several hours, Jason and Maya were able to find enough snow to make a snowball.

Definitely Getting Coal Next Year

Christmas morning arrived with much anticipation, maybe a little too much anticipation. Maya woke up at 5:30 so I had to keep her out of the living room until everyone else was ready. She did really well with the wait but started to get a little anxious right before we opened presents. Things started to go downhill pretty fast after that.

Luckily the lollipops Santa left in her stocking saved the day.

He Came, He Snacked, He Left Gifts

Maya took great care with getting Santa's snack together. I talk a lot about the magnitude of Maya's sweet tooth and I fully expected her to try to get one of his cookies, but it didn't happen. She wouldn't even think of trying to swipe one of Santa's delicious cookies. She carried the plate into the living room and walked away talking about Santa and his reindeer, keeping one eye on the front door. ( No fireplace in Florida so Santa gets front door privileges)

Working On It

Although Maya loves animals, she seems to have a weird thing about dogs. She does really well with Buddy, Uncle Mo's golden retriever, but she has issues with smaller dogs and puppies. She hates it when they try to lick her or jump on her. We stopped by Petland to let her play with the animals and we picked out a puppy that seemed pretty calm. Naturally, Maya was terrified at first. I was hoping the ridiculous look of the Dachshund would warm her up to the little guy and I think it may have worked. For the first time ever, Maya wanted to hold a puppy. She did great until he went to give her a kiss and then she wanted nothing to do with him. It was a pretty good ten seconds.

Hating The Flash

I had a beautiful picture in mind for our Christmas cards this year. So one morning I put Maya in her Christmas dress and sat her in front of the tree. I started taking picture after picture after picture and I noticed a trend of terrible luck. I either got her with her eyes closed:
looking like she got into the eggnog:

or just passed out:

I wanted to smash the camera and it's incredibly annoying flash into a million pieces. Instead I just sucked it up and ended up getting a cute shot at a party the next day.
And it only took thirty tries.

It's Santa!

After seeing him in the parade a couple of weeks ago, Maya finally got to meet Santa. She points out his picture whenever she sees it and loves to sing about him. So when he entered the room with a booming HO HO HO she jumped into my arms with a death grip around my neck.
We decided getting any closer than this would be too traumatic.

Any Normal Person Would Have Expected This

I wasn't able to get any good pictures from the Christmas Program, I don't know if it was the lighting or the fact that my camera hates me. Whatever the reason, I did get a couple of passable pictures.

When the kids started to take the stage, all of the parents who had been sitting calmly talking among themselves started pulling cameras and video cameras out of thin air and scrambling into the aisles to claim the best spot. It was like every parody I've seen of a kid's first school program. So after pulling out our seven cameras and five tripods and wrestling a few people for a spot, I was able to get a few fuzzy shots and highly exciting videos. Maya's in the center of this picture with the striped shirt and red bow sitting next to the little girl in white.
She's just sitting there, but that's pretty much all she did. When they were standing and singing she decided to just stand there and stare at the bells in her hand. Or she would change it up by standing there and frowning. Finally things got really interesting:

In case you can't find her, Maya is the one with her finger up her nose. It was a proud moment.

She Sang The Entire Way Home

On Tuesday, Maya's preschool had their Christmas program. The school told us they were going to be singing Christmas carols and Maya had been singing Jingle Bells all week at home. We were really looking forward to the program and getting to see our little girl singing her heart out. Here's a clip I shot that gives you a good idea of just how into she was. The two year olds are all in the back row and Maya is in the center with the big red bow.
